Sarah Burton’s theatrical Alexander McQueen collection for Paris Fashion Week has been described by Vogue as “High Church meets Ballets Russes meets Virgin Queen” – Elizabethan history brought to the present day.
Pieces of Note: Intricate workmanship translated in to pearl-encrusted everything; finger-only white gloves, pleated collars on caged crinolines, hip-heavy skirts with accordian pleats, cascading sleeves and bejewelled bodices. The palette was predominantly black and white, with gold and silver additions.
Style: This wouldn’t be out of place in a Tudor court, and had something of the couture about it. It might be hard to translate it into the highstreet, but this collection was stunningly beautiful and makes you want to wear it regardless.
