Emilio de la Morena at London Fashion Week SS’13

This latest collection from Emilio de la Morena is not only inspired by Turner-prize-winning artist Rachel Whiteread, but also has a biographical perspective. “I felt I wanted to bring back memories from the past,” the designer told Vogue backstage.

This translated into Flamenco frills, and that distinct Spanish crimson-and-yellow combination. The block spiral print, however, was a new invention, and was seen on vests and smattered on pencil skirts.

But it was Morena’s ability to create flawlessly tailored and exquisitely feminine designs in a warm mix of textures that made this SS’13 collection so desirable. Sheer silk was married with wet-look leather and wool blazers, in simple black or white, frilled with sharp red or sunshine yellow; and oversized blazers with envelope pockets and frilled belts created a shapely and sensual collection that is one of the most wearable from London Fashion Week.
