Bora Aksu at London Fashion Week SS’13

It was 19th Century Queen of Romania, and Queen Victoria’s granddaughter, Marie, who was Bora Aksu‘s muse for this season. The show notes proclaimed “To take you forwards we must first take you back”… and it certainly did.

Queen Marie, scorned by love, stepped away from life and buried herself in art and botanical gardens – and references to this was found in the blend of Art Deco with Art Nouveau in broad-stroke floral prints.

Discreet three-quarter length sleeves on the shift dresses were perfect for day-to-night and super wearable, whilst the red and yellow knitwear added tangy flickers of colour, threaded with silver. The bolt-of-blue skirt suit was one of my favourite pieces, with little prints on the collar for added interest.

Bora Aksu knows his colours and prints, and offers them to us without adornment, just lots of character.
