Julien Macdonald isn’t one for letting the hectic madness of London Fashion Week get on top of him. The collection was shown – in one-on-one sessions – in a calm and soothing surrounding on Old Burlington Street, with fresh fruit and macaroons to keep visitors going.
“I always start with asking myself ‘who is the woman?’ In my mind this time she was Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct – a strong woman who lives in a Hollywood mansion,” Macdonald explains of the latest collection to Vogue.
Though we can expect a return to the catwalk in the near future from the designer, this collection shimmered in its private setting. Ever the master of fabrics, Julien Macdonald SS’13 introduces sequins and sunset colours against luxe fabrics that seem to move by themselves. Knits have daring cut-outs, and are inspired by tribal paintings. Each design is perfect for looking chic without the effort – a throw-it-on collection that oozes style.
