And so New York Fashion Week came to a close. Though the last day was by no means any less grandiose, New York began to breathe a sigh of relief, in the knowledge that they could recover from Fashion Week – whilst London took a deep breath for the plunge. And what goodies were on show for the last day of New York Fashion Week? Well, aside from a brightly floral Brood, and an ethereal MM6 Maison Martin Margiela, and of course the typically show-stopping Calvin Klein Collection, there was – collective fashion sigh please – Ralph Lauren.
Forget the British-inspired tweeds of AW’12, Ralph Lauren has looked to South America for this season’s fashion revelation. Berets and Panama hats, gaucho pants, torero jackets and a nod to Mexican blankets in a huge shawl, tops and shoulder bags. This South American beauty blended with one of New York’s greatest and most luxe brands created a collection to truly behold – from the double-breasted trouser suit with echoes of Colombia, to the drop-waist flamenco-style dress, and lastly to the golden trim similar to a bullfighter costumes.
With nods to Ralph Lauren roots, there were flashes of floral dresses, suede outerwear and tailored cuts, the collection as a whole was a tasty mix of Ralph Lauren from New York, and the more jetset, exotic Ralph Lauren of the world.
