NYFW Roundup: The Beginning

Forget the VMA’s down in LA, New York was the place to be seen this past week. Stars and fashion icons flooded the front rows of the shows, from crisp whites at Organic by John Patrick, to sport luxe at Rachel Comey – and that was just the start!

Day one favourite for me was certainly Erin Fetherston [featured] in the afternoon. The invite was adorned with lipstick kisses, and promised more. In the High Line room of the Standard Hotel, the designer didn’t disappoint. Her SS’13 cocktail dress was lavishly coated in even more kisses, while a dazzling array of sleeveless dresses filled the room; whites, oranges, yellows and blush tones stood shoulder to shoulder with ostrich-feather skirts, zebra stripes made from sequins and two-piece suits.

My highlight was the giraffe-like motif in a metallic fabric that appeared on a shorts-and-blazer set and a peplum tube dress.

The inspiration for Erin Fetherston? Alexandra McDermott, “the star of the spring season’s lookbook”, who performed three songs at the end of the show, as the sun set over New York.
