Every year the Queen hands out honours, and this year it was the fashion elite who took pride of place. Founder of the Fashion East initiative, Lulu Kennedy, was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to the fashion industry. Kennedy has helped along the careers of the likes of Jonathan Saunders and Meadham Kirchhoff – the Fashion East initiative promoting hot new British designers.
Others to receive MBEs include footwear designer Emma Hope, Links of London and John Ayton and Annoushka Ducas, founders of Annoushka. An OBE was given to Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki, who has designed for Topshop, Habitat and George at Asda. The Polish designer expressed her delight at the honour to Womens Wear Daily.
“I’m just absolutely thrilled. It’s thrilling for a Polish person to get an award like that from the Queen. And half of it does belong to my husband of course, because it’s for Biba.”
Others on the list include Helena Bonham Carter, Marc Newson, Christopher Inman and Clive Christian.
