Bright and Shining Star

She was the successor to one of the biggest designers of the decade – and Sarah Burton of the Alexander McQueen dynasty has admitted to Hintmag that it wasn’t easy.

“At the beginning, taking on the job was something that I didn’t want to do, because he was such a genius, and you can never pretend to be him. He was so inspiring and funny, and an incredible man, that I was very afraid of taking the job. But now I look back and I’m very glad that I did, because it’s almost kept the studio alive in his spirit. It’s kept the team together. What did he work so hard for for all those years if it was just going to disappear?”

Burton talked about the difficulty of following in the footsteps of McQueen as well as the ideas behind her latest collection for the fashion house in a video to mark the Beijing store-opening. She has been nearly two years in the role now – how do you think she’s doing?
